This Week in DVD

Australia: They say everything's bigger in Oz. Or maybe everything's more penal in Oz. Or maybe--eh, I don't know. But now, finally, the movie Hugh Jackman self-mockingly referenced at the Oscars can be YOURS on DVD!

Beverly Hills Chihuahua: I think Salma Hayek was somehow involved in producing this one. She has a child, marries an old French dude, and produces this...and is still one of the sexiest women ever. I think that deserves Hall of Fame status.

My Two Dads Season 1: Ooh, do we get to hear the Greg-Evigan-performed (and penned!) theme song in 5.1?

Ace Ventura Pet Detective Jr.: This belongs in the horror section as proof that Ace Ventura breeds?

Saturday Morning: A romantic comedy starring Joey Piscopo. This belongs in the horror section as proof that Joe Piscopo breeds.

Watchmen: The Motion Comic: If the movie intrigues you, but reading comics is too muchwork for you, well, help is on the way.

Wonder Woman: Keri Russell stars as the superheroine in this direct-to-video animated feature. These DC animated DVDs have been excellent, and let's hope this one is, too, because that long-planned live action Wonder Woman movie is an increasingly distant prospect. In the meantime, you'll just have to imagine Russell, or any of the dozens of actresses rumored to be up for the "real" flick, in that costume.

In the Electric Mist: Speaking of straight to video, how does a Tommy Lee Jones movie based on novelist James Lee Burke's possible Dave Robicheaux character get shut out of theaters? Is this the kind of country we live in, a nation which gives Tommy Lee Jones no respect? Is this what we have to look forward to in Barack Obama's America?

I've Loved You So Long: Had a few things broken differently for this one, we might have been snapping this one up this week to see Kristin Scott Thomas' Academy-Award-nominated performance as a woman reuniting with her sister. Instead, it got no recongition, so we're now free to ignore it.
